After nearly half a century, the historic Red Cross and Mindanao Blood Bank Building at the Capitol Compound which was built in 1956 is finally going down and will be replaced by a much modern facility.

The groundbreaking of the new building is set tomorrow, July 19 at 10:00AM with no less than Red Cross Chairman Richard Gordon as special guest. As shown below, demolition of the old building is already underway.

Below is a closer look of the rendering. I first posted this project last February 14, 2013 (LINK).

The new building will cost around P10.6 million and will be completed in 210 calendar days or seven (7) months.

The group pose in front of the old Balete tree located at the back of the building. Whether this tree will be cut down to give way for the construction remains to be seen…

“A lot of blood” have already been shed in this building. It’s about time that modern facilities replace the old one.
