Part of the Metro Cagayan de Oro Master Plan for Sustainable Infrastructure Development is urban renewal of the existing urban core which will provide areas for high-density development. An example of these initiatives is the renewal of the plaza area into a pedestrianized district where streets are converted into walkable open spaces to which commercial and recreational establishments open.
This concept will harness the historical beauty and value of Divisoria area and turn them into pedestrian-oriented and vehicle-free zones that provide a variety of urban services, from hotels, restaurants, to specialty shops, theaters, and other urban recreation facilities.

Basically, the streets around the park (RN Abejuela and Tirso Neri) will be closed to vehicular traffic and become walkable open spaces. Below are some perspectives of the urban renewal concept.
