Amid the rising demand of bamboo, an Engineered Bamboo Industrial Plant is now rising in Mambuaya, Cagayan de Oro City. And last March 5, 2021, some P2.4 million worth of processing equipment were turned over by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Office to the Mambuaya Integrated Social Forestry Farmers Association (MAISFFA) which will manage the facility.
Photos below show DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Almer Masillones and barangay officials of Mambuaya during the turnover of equipment which include bamboo splitting machine, high speed strip planning machine, glue coating machine, and hot press machine.

Accordingly, the project is under the Shared Service Facility (SSF) of DTI MisOr’s Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management – Livelihood Enhancement Support (INREMP-LES) 2 project.

The growth in the bamboo industry has been attributed to several factors including sustainability, less capitalization and shorter time to grow it. There is also a big market for bamboo for furniture as well as for river bank protection not to mention the trending balsa fever in Misamis Oriental.
