Another milestone for Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan took place today with the formal groundbreaking of its new Senior High School Building Complex at the 12-hectare Pueblo de Oro Campus.

The new Xavier Ateneo Senior High School campus uses green technology in its buildings featuring a sewerage treatment plant, rainwater collection, natural ventilation, and sky gardens, designed to reduce the overall impact on the environment and human health. Shown below is an aerial perspective of the educational complex which includes a 50-classroom building with two wings (left), a covered court (top) which can fit two basketball courts, an 800-seater cafeteria (bottom), and a physical plant office (right).

The development will also include a Chapel, a Library, Infirmary, Student Lounge, Laboratories, Audio-Visual Rooms, Testing Room, Student Government Office, Sky Gardens, Conference Rooms, Guidance and Counseling Office, Muslim Prayer Room, Co-Curricular Rooms, Testing Office, Interfaith Room, Consultation Rooms, and Faculty and Staff Dining.

University President Fr. Robert Yap led during this afternoon’s activity together with university officials, faculty, alumni, project contractor, designer and staff.

Meanwhile, here’s the covered court.

Fr. Yap envisions the new facility to be the best senior high school in Northern Mindanao.

Fr. Yap shows the perspective and identifies each building to the attendees.

Currently, some 2,000 senior high school students are still using existing facilities in the university’s main campus along Corrales Avenue.

The complex is targeted for completion in May 2019 or just before the school year starts next year.

KCD Builders Corporation is the project contractor.

Fr. Yap, project contractors and other officials sign the approved building plans of the project.

The plans and other documents are now placed inside the time capsule.

The time capsule is now being lowered to the ground.

The buried time capsule is now being covered.

Here’s the official photo after the groundbreaking.

Fr. Yap wants all senior high school students to ‘Experience Excellence’, the university’s new tagline which the Xavier Ateneo community proudly state being the first university in Mindanao and the first Jesuit university in the Philippines.

The activity is not complete without a beautiful intermission number.

Xavier Ateneo Senior High School principal Dr Rogelio Gawahan will soon have a building of its own.

One of the sidelights of the ceremony was the Facilities Naming Rights Program wherein alumni and businessmen will sponsor or donate amount for certain facilities of the new senior high school and will be named after the donors. XU Advancement Office Director Mr. Rodelo Reyes (left, below) explained the benefits of the program. Right on the spot, the first donor was businessman Hong See (owner of Ororama Chain of stores) who donated P100,000 check for one of the school facility. Meanwhile, XU Vice-President for Administration Edison Sasoy (right, below) delivered the closing remarks.

Ms Maria Estella Sanchez was the emcee during the activity.

XU Alumni Affairs Director Virginia Yacapin gladly announced a special ‘reunion’ boodle treat at Boy Zugba for XUHS BATCH 1993 who had the biggest number of alumni who attended the event.

The new campus has its entrance along Masterson Avenue right beside DSWD.

Snacks and refreshments followed after the ceremony.

Actually, site development and vertical construction had already began.

You can see the drainage system already in place.
