The United States is set to start constructing some facilities in three military installations this year including Lumbia Airfield in Cagayan de Oro City. This was disclosed by Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana in a briefing held at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City yesterday.
This activity relates to the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) with the US which is still in effect. Accordingly, among the facilities to be setup include runway, buildings for US troops and storage area for equipment. However, no definite date has been set as to the start of construction.
Since Lumbia already has a runway, it’s more likely storage area and troops’ facilities will be built.
